Orange Card Stock - "Belgium Boy" Horse for Sale


This little but very noticeable card advertised “Belgium Boy” horse for sale in Ohio.

Belgium Boy is a beautiful bay with black points, with good feet and flat bone, stands 16 hands high, good symmetry and superior action; was bred by J.L. Beck of River Styx, Medina co., Ohio; is 5 years old. 1st dam a beautiful bay mare sired by Belgium Boy imported by David Martin, of Madison co. O. 2nd dam sired by imported horse. 3rd dam was a well bred mare.

Belgium Boy was sired by the Celebrated Imported Draft Stallion Belgium, was imported by Ed. Thompson of Delaware, and was a prize winner.

Belgium Boy weighs 1750 pounds. He will stand for service this season at the stable of Daniel Reagle, 1 ½ miles Northwest of Loyal Oak, on Mondays and Tuesdays; and the balance of the week at the stable of the owner, on the J.L. Beck farm, 1 mile south of River Styx.

Terms – Eight dollars to insure with foal; four dollars for single service. Escapes and accidents at owners risks. Due care will be taken to prevent accidents. G.S. Beck, owner and keeper.

I have thoroughbred Short Horn and Ayrshire bulls on my premises ready for service.”

From the Jean Berg collection. On the back is pencilled “River Styx, Ohio, 1885,” which we assume was done by Jean.

Condition: Very good. Has slight oxidation at top and right edges. There are no bends in this card. The corners show the slightest bit of underlying card stock.Size 4.5 x 2.5 inches.
