In 1895 C.H. Higbee created Roachsault, which was called a preparation of fluoride of sodium – a chemical salt. Around 1900, another company tried to make a product named Roach Salt and several years of legal wrangling ensued between the two companies.

Roachsault seems to have won out, as the newspaper ads for it went on for decades.
