Stock Certificate - Citizens National Bank of Washington City

Henry P. Blair bought five shares at one hundred dollars each on June 25, 1903. The bank’s incorporation seal is dated 1873. The note was printed by American Bank Note Co. New York, Litho. Decorative design with United States Capitol building.

On the back, Henry Blair transferred/sold/assigned his five shares to John C. Aphey on Sept. 29, 1904.

Interestingly, the Citizens National Bank started running notices in the Washington newspapers on Oct. 10, 1904, that it was holding a special meeting of the stockholders “for the purpose of considering the placing of said bank in liquidation.” It did close in 1905.

Henry P. Blair was the son of Henry W. Blair, who had been New Hampshire Senator for many years. Young Mr. Blair studied law at what became the George Washington University law school, graduating in 1892. He had a successful law career in Washington, D.C. and sat on many boards, including Traders National Bank.
